Lang Lang Effect

This was a magnificent inauguration of Chopin Year. Lang Lang, one of the greatest world pianists, performed in Warsaw Philharmonic.

Friday evening was opened with Andante spianato and Grand Polonaise in e flat major op. 22. In the introduction, the Chinese pianist felt into reverie, treating, with rightness, andante as a nocturne. Afterwards, with an energy that is typical of him, he played polonaise. It was stunning although it was a specific kind of a walked dance. However, the performance of Concerto in e minor was perfect.
In Warsaw, the Chinese pianist showed interpretation brilliantly well-considered, stunning with proportions, details, the smallest nuances and tastes. What I liked most was how the artist changed, modeled the sound, he knew how to be delicate, even faint, but even in forte he did not lose anything from his nobility. Another matter is how, in what way Lang Lang was listening to himself and the orchestra. He was concentrated on sound and he was listening intently to Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Antoni Wit. He was ‘talking’ to instruments and he was constantly happy about each single note he played. The middle part (larghetto) and the final (vivace) were shining brilliantly.
We will remember his interpretations of Chopin for a very long time. It is a wonderful point of reference for the concerts that are still awaiting us. I am wondering, who in 2010 will perform Chopin as well as Lang Lang did.
